How to Set goals

With 2018 coming to an end, you’re probably starting to think about 2019. It’s only a few weeks away and soon you’ll be setting resolutions and goals to achieve for the next 365. Today’s episode, we are challenging you to look a little deeper at goals. They aren’t just an end of year tradition that you make then forget about two months later. They can teach you so much about yourself, push you to greater heights, and help make your dreams a reality.

Why We Set Goals

Before we think about what goals we want to set, it’s important to think about why we set them. It’s a chance for us to focus on where we want our lives to go. It’s an opportunity to evaluate our lives and find ways to make them better. Goals create a friendly competition with our past selves and our future selves. Goals help us improve who we are and how we positively affect the world.

When to Set Goals

You don’t have to wait for New Year’s to set new goals for yourself. The sky’s the limit! We like to set goals quarterly and monthly too. Shaunae likes using her birthday as a chance to reflect on past wins and new thoughts for the future. You can set goals whenever fits best for you.

Steps on How to Set Your Goals

When setting goals, we like to start out with a vision for our ideal future. What does it look like? Creating a mood or inspiration board is a great place to figure out what your goals should be. Once you know what you want your future to look like to can start create bigger goals on how to get there. Then you take that big goal and break it down even more, into smaller mini goals. We love the idea of setting SMART goals. A SMART goal is a short statement that a person makes to lead them in the direction of what they want to accomplish. SMART stands for Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant and Time-bound. When you set a SMART goal, you’ve truly thought your entire goal through and are more likely to achieve it!

Do What is Best for You

There is no right or wrong goal. There is no ideal time to start goals. Figure out what you want out of life and what works best for you. If you are serious about something, setting a goal is a great way to get to where you want to be. But don’t beat yourself up if you aren’t there yet. Celebrate your wins along the way, that’s the most important part.
